Emergency Protocol

Purpose

To protect employees, customers, and inventory by establishing clear protocols for handling security incidents, health emergencies, and other safety-related situations. This SOP ensures compliance with local laws and minimizes risk during high-stress events.

Role

All Staff
Security
Shift Lead
General Manager

Timing

Daily operations and during any safety, security, or emergency event

Steps

  1. Conduct a daily safety check of all entrances, exits, cameras, alarms, and emergency equipment. Report and resolve any malfunctions or concerns immediately.
  2. Ensure that all emergency exits are clearly marked and unobstructed. Fire extinguishers and first-aid kits must be accessible at all times.
  3. In the event of a robbery or attempted theft, employees must not resist. Cooperate fully, observe details of the suspect, and follow established post-incident procedures.
  4. After the threat has passed, lock down the facility and call emergency services. Do not allow customers or staff to leave until cleared by authorities, if applicable.
  5. Document the incident using the internal reporting form. Include time, location, staff involved, and a description of events. Submit the report to the General Manager.
  6. For health emergencies involving staff or customers, call 911 if necessary. Provide assistance only within the limits of your training.
  7. If a workplace injury occurs, complete an incident report and notify management immediately. Staff may be required to submit to drug testing depending on state law and company policy.
  8. In the event of a fire, follow evacuation procedures. Do not attempt to retrieve cash or inventory unless directed by emergency personnel.
  9. Hold regular safety drills, including fire, robbery, and evacuation scenarios. Log participation and review areas for improvement after each drill.

Maintain updated emergency contact information for all employees. Post contact numbers for police, fire, and poison control in visible areas.
