Section 2: CloudBox Setup Guide (PC)

Desktop/PC

Introduction

In this section, you’ll learn how to set up your CloudBox Link system on a desktop or laptop computer using the CloudBox web app. This setup connects your scale, RFID or barcode reader, and USB hub to ensure seamless communication between your hardware and the CloudBox platform. Once complete, you’ll be ready to perform inventory cycle counts, edit container information, and manage automations directly from your PC.

Step-by-Sep Tutorial

  1. Access the CloudBox Web App
    • Open Google Chrome (recommended browser) and go to app.cloudboxapp.com or visit the CloudBox website and select Web App Login.
    • Once logged in, navigate to the Link tab: this is where you’ll perform all main operations, including cycle counts, container setup, and container management.
  2. Connect the Scale
    • Plug the RS232 cable directly into your computer’s port if available: this is the most reliable connection.
    • If your PC doesn’t have a serial port, use a USB-C dock or dongle.
      1. Ensure all cables are plugged into the correct ports.
      2. The dock’s power cable must be connected to the PD (Power Delivery) port.
      3. Verify the dock is powered by keeping it plugged into an outlet.
  3. Connect the RFID or Barcode Reader
    • If using a wired RFID or barcode reader, connect it to the hub now.
    • If using a wireless reader, connect it using either:
      1. The USB wireless transmitter, or
      2. Bluetooth through your computer’s settings.
  4. Connect to the Scale in CloudBox Link
    • Inside the CloudBox web app, go to Settings and click Connect to Scale at the top.
    • A list of available data sources will appear.. select Serial Port.
    • Depending on your system, the serial port may appear under a different name (for example, COM3, USB Serial Device, or similar).
    • If you don’t see immediate readings, try selecting other ports until you see live weight readings appear in the app.
  5. Check for Scale Stability
    • If your scale readings fluctuate, check that:
      1. The scale’s legs are tightened and level.
      2. The scale isn’t placed near an AC vent, fan, or draft, as airflow can affect readings.
    • Once stable, confirm that the weight updates smoothly in real time.

Tips & Tricks

  • Always use Google Chrome for the most stable CloudBox Link performance.
  • A direct RS232 connection to your PC is preferred for consistent data transfer.
  • If using a dock, make sure the PD port is actively supplying power as unpowered docks can cause connection loss.
  • Keep your scale on a flat, stable surface away from vibrations or airflow.
  • When multiple COM ports appear, try each one until the live scale data appears.
  • Label your cables and ports for quick troubleshooting in multi-device setups.
  • Once connected, keep the scale powered on during your entire session to avoid calibration resets.
