Section 3: First Time Container Setup

Introduction

In this part of the tutorial, we’ll walk through how to set up a new CloudBox container. This process ensures each container is properly labeled, registered, and calibrated within the CloudBox Link app so your inventory tracking remains accurate and reliable.

Step-by-Step Tutorial

Part 1: New Container Setup

  1. Begin by attaching your CloudBox label (RFID or barcode) to the container you’re setting up. When possible, position the label higher on the container to reduce interference from the metal scale.
  2. Open the CloudBox app on your tablet and tap the balance icon to access the CloudBox Link page.
  3. If prompted for a USB connection, select Connect to Scale, then tap OK.
  4. Ensure the scale is teared (zeroed) before placing any items on it.
  5. Make sure the container is empty, then place it on the scale.
  6. Scan the CloudBox label using RFID, barcode, or QR code—whichever method is most convenient for your setup.
  7. When the pop-up message “Container not found” appears, tap Yes to begin container registration.
  8. If your container has a lid and you plan to perform cycle counts with the lid on, record the raw weight with the lid on. If not, record the weight with the lid off.
  9. (Cannabis industry only) Scan the METRC label to automatically prepopulate container information, saving setup time and ensuring compliance data syncs correctly.

‍

Part 2: New SKU Setup

  1. Within the app, assign a SKU to the container if you have created one. If not, click add new SKU to create a new SKU.
  2. ‍Name the SKU for easy identification.
  3. Select the expiration date if the product stored inside is perishable.
  4. Choose whether this SKU will use Unit Mode or Weight Mode:
    • Weight Mode: For inventory you want to track by total weight.
    • Unit Mode: For inventory/SKUs you want to track by quantity.
      • For lighter products, always use five or more units when setting up the SKU. This helps CloudBox calculate a more accurate average unit weight.
  5. Once complete, confirm that the container’s SKU and weight values are synced and visible within your CloudBox dashboard.

‍

Section 3: Helpful Tips & Tricks

  • Always place the CloudBox label high on the container to avoid metal interference from the scale.
  • Tare the scale before every new container setup to ensure weight accuracy.
  • For Unit Mode calibration, weighing multiple items (at least five) produces a more reliable SKU average.
  • Keep container naming consistent (e.g., “Flower Jar 1” or “Scale 2 - SKU123”) for easier search and reporting.
  • If using wireless RFID readers, confirm they’re connected via Bluetooth or USB transmitter before scanning.
  • METRC users: Always scan METRC labels first for seamless compliance data integration.
